Following the critical acclaim of the first Computer Incarnations for World Peace compilation, Gerd Janson - label head of Running Back Records and part time journalist for German magazines Groove and Spex - returns to Sonar Kollektiv to sate the masses with this equally brilliant follow up.
While the first CIFWP focused on the early 80s with a selection of forgotten gems from the new wave era, part two showcases the recent evolution of disco music, with 13 tracks from artists and producers who’ve reasserted their love for this kind of music and injected some new blood into the veins of a genre that all but deserted the dance floors in the 90s. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes it has returned in force, thanks to a new breed of disco music producers who pour influences ranging from funk, house, boogie and Brazilian music into their music.
Kicking things off is Alex Storrer aka Lexx, with an instrumental version of "Mahogany". This is a stunning piece of cosmic disco made up of gorgeous keyboard melodies, guitars riffs and tight drum parts over dreamy pads and female choirs. The second track - "Reinbågan" - from Nordic disco darlings Todd Terje and Prins Thomas, is a superb dub-disco cover of Cloud One’s "Don’t Let My Rainbow Pass Me By". It is also very sought-after, as only 60 copies of it were pressed! The 3rd track is an unreleased slow motion corker with beautiful pads and ever-rolling arpeggios called "GRN Aventurine", from French dynamic duo Château Flight aka DJ Gilb’r and I:Cube of Versatile records fame.
Crazy Penis follow with "Keep On", reworked by disco pioneers Daniel Wang and Brennan Green. Sentrall records is represented twice on the compilation: first, with the heavenly cut called "Blazer" by Project Sandro featuring ethereal steel-drums and layers of synths; and then with "producer’s producer" Maurice Fulton’s remix of Rollmottle’s "Take A Break".
Representing the UK is "Lullaby for Robert" by Ewan Pearson’s buddy Al Usher, the groovy boogie disco number "Odyssey" by London’s Woolfy, "Fighter" by Birmingham’s wonderboy Mark E, and the electronic Soca-disco cut "To and Fro" from long-time Idjut Boys friend and Noid records cohort, Ray Mang a.k.a Raj Gupta.
Finishing off this retro-futuristic disco journey is "Tyrant" by San Serac, a nice slice of disco-pop, seen here in a special version exclusively for the release. And with the dreamy and Balearic delight "Shulme" by Smith & Mudd of Rong records fame and "Walking in The Rain" by Frontera, (aka Eskimo’s Reverso 68), this incredible travel ends up as sweetly as it started.
